The Company of the Little Fields
When you are the son of the President of the prestigious Academy of Agriculture, and the grandson of the famous Eure breeder, Robert Hervieu, you cannot escape your destiny. Although Clément Hervieu-Léger, an influential member of the Comédie-Française, chose the stage as a means of self-expression, he did not lose his rural roots. In 2012, with his accomplice and friend, Daniel San Pedro, he decided to create his own Company. It was to be called “La Compagnie des Petits Champs” (The Company of the Little Fields”). Right from the start the theatrical creativity of the two gifted actor/directors enjoyed immense popularity, both in France and abroad. L’épreuve by Marivaux, Yerma by Garcia Lorca, Noces de sang and Le voyage en Uruguay, were performed in numerous countries.
But it is at home, in the “Etable” (The Stable) in Beaumontel, an exceptional building that earned the farm its “new farm” label, that the Company resides. The former untouched 1950s stable was transformed into an artistic platform with an outreach on the national scale. It is an inspiring location, and numerous artists are in residence here every year. Understandably so: the farm is a jewel in a magnificent natural setting, with the presence of superb thoroughbred horses.
